Event Details

Oxfam, ArtsEngine, Shooting People and GustoOrganics are proud to present a special screening of three short documentaries exposing the true cost of armed violence on poor communities around the world.

The films were made by young independent filmmakers from India, Brazil and Burundi as part of Shooting Poverty - a film competition sponsored by Oxfam. 

The filmmakers will be present at the screening which will be followed by Q&A and a networking reception. (You must be 21 or older to attend the reception.)

Bang for Your Buck Directors: Seth Chase, 33 (US) and Brice Blondel, 28 (France)

In post conflict Burundi one thing remains affordable to all: the grenade. Journalist Teddy Mazina follows the stories behind the headlines of never-ending explosive lethal attacks.


Grosso Calibre Directors: Guilherme Arruda, 28, Ludmila Curi, 30 and Thiago Vieira, 31
Through the music and lyrics of forbidden funk star MC Smith this film shows the reality of life for people in Rio’s favelas surviving drug fuelled gang and police violence.

April 6th Director: Chandam Netraj, 34
Renu, a 28 year-old widow in India, transforms her life from a desperate situation of being labeled the wife of a “terrorist” to becoming a community leader fighting for the rights of widows of gun violence.
